The Yoshida Fire Festival 2023

 

It is said that there are more than 88,000 shrines in Japan. Each shrine has some festivals in a year. They usually have monthly festivals called tsukinamisai on the first day and the 15^th day of the month. Besides monthly festivals they have annual festivals.  Some are famous and others are not.

日本には88,000以上の神社があるといわれています。それぞれの神社には毎年お祭りがあります。普通1日と15日には月次祭と呼ばれるお祭りがあります。それ以外に例大祭があります。有名なものもあればそうでないものもあります。

 

I started the new e-book series “Festivals in Japan” last year when I visited Chichibu Night Festival.

昨年秩父の夜祭に行ったときに新しい”日本の祭り” シリーズを始めました。

 

This is the second e-book of the series.

これはこのシリーズ2冊目です。

 

Last Spring when I visited Arakurayama Sengen Park to see the cherry blossoms with Mt. Fuji and the 5^th story pagoda with my friend, I knew about the Fire Festival in Yoshida. Unfortunately I could not visit last year but she did and stayed overnight.

昨年春、友人と新倉山浅間公園に、富士山と五重塔と桜を見に行った時に、吉田の火祭りについて知りました。残念ながら私は行けませんでしたが、彼女は行って1泊しました。

 

This year I tried to book the hotel but could not, and I asked her to book the hotel she stayed last year, and we went together.

今年ホテルの予約をしようとしましたが、取れなかったので、彼女に昨年泊まったところを予約してもらい、一緒に行きました。

 

Yoshida no himatsuri, the Yoshida Fire Festival, is known as one of the three most unique festivals in Japan. The other two are Obi matsuri, Shimada Grand Festival, in Shimada, Shizuoka and Konomiya hadaka matsuri, Naked Festival of Owari Okunitama Shrine, in Inazawa, Aichi. There are cases that other festivals are counted.

吉田の火祭りは、日本三奇祭の一つとして知られています。他の二つは、静岡県島田市の帯祭と愛知県稲沢市の国府宮はだか祭です。他のお祭りが含まれる場合もあります。

 

The Yoshida Fire Festival is an annual festival held at Kitaguchi hongu fuji sengen jinja shrine and Suwa jinja shrine on August 26 and 27 every year to mark the end of climbing season of Mt. Fuji.

吉田の火祭りは富士山の山じまいのお祭りとして、毎年8月26日と27日に北口本宮冨士浅間神社と諏訪神社で行われます。

 

It has more than 400 years of history.

400年以上の歴史があります。

 

Day 1 is called Yoi matsuri, and Day 2 is called Hon matsuri.

初日は宵祭、2日目は本祭と呼ばれます。

15:00  　　 最初のお祭り（本殿祭）

16:00頃　　神様の引っ越し（御動座祭）

16:55頃  　神輿の出発（発與祭）

17:10頃　　神輿の行進（神輿の渡御）

18:50頃  　御旅所へ到着（着與祭）

19:00頃～22:30頃　神楽の奉納

19:00頃　　松明へ点火

 

August 27　Hon matsuri

13:45頃  　御旅所を出発（御旅所発與祭）

15:30頃  　金鳥居でのお祭り（金鳥居祭）

15:50頃  　神輿の行進（神輿の渡御）

18:35頃  　御鞍石祭

19:00頃  　あげ松の神事

19:05頃　　すすき祭

19:15頃～　神様のお帰り（高天原祭～還幸祭）

 

I could not see all the festivals, but saw many parts.

すべてを見ることはできませんでしたが、大分見ました。
