Chichibu Night Festival: 2022

 I have been to Chichibu several times in my life. Especially from October to November 2014 I went there 5 times to visit 34 temples which is the total of 100km. It was the time of special open exhibitions of the year of horse. It only happens once in 12 years. So if you are interested in seeing the hidden statues, you’d better visit in 2026 next time.

私は今までの人生で何度か秩父に行ったことがあります。特に2014年の10月から11月にかけて5回ほど行き、一巡約100キロの秩父三十四ヶ所札所巡りをしました。その時は十二年に一度の午歳総開帳の年でした。もし興味があれば、次は2026年になります。

I knew about the Chichibu Night Festival by news, but I have never visited there, and I have been very interested in visiting for a long time.
秩父夜祭のことはニュースで知っていましたが、一度も行ったことはなく、長い間ずっと行ってみたいと思っていました。

It is held in the night on December 2 and 3. I heard it is very cold. Since it is rather far from my place taking about 4 hours by train, I was wondering how to come home after the festival.
それは12月2日と3日に行われます。とても寒いと聞いていました。私のところからは電車で4時間くらいなので、どうやって帰ろうかと思っていました。

I happened to find the reasonable bus tour and applied but it was so popular that I was on the waiting list and could not join after all.
とっても魅力的なバスツアーを見つけ応募しましたが、人気があったので、キャンセル待ちで結局参加できませんでした。

It was Saturday this year so I decided to visit there by train. The problem was how to come back. Hotels were full and it was impossible to stay there. I was thinking to come back to Ikebukuro or so. To my glad my friend offered me to stay at her house in Tokyo on the day so I could stay there until the last fireworks were over.
今年は土曜日開催だったので、電車で行こうと決めました。問題は帰宅方法です。ホテルはいっぱいで、そこに泊まるのは無理でした。池袋辺りまで戻ろうかと思っていました。嬉しいことに友人が東京の彼女の家に泊まればと誘ってくれたので、最後の花火まで見ることが出来ました。

Chichibu Night Festival is one of the three major Hikiyama festivals in Japan, along with Kyoto Gion Festival in July and the Hida Takayama Festivals in April and October. It has a history of more than 300 years old.
秩父夜祭は、7月の京都祇園祭、4月と10月の飛騨高山祭と共に日本三大曳山祭りの一つです。300年以上の歴史があります。

Two kasaboko floats and four yatai floats are pulled around the town to the accompaniment of the heroic yatai hayashi music.
笠鉾2基と屋台4基の山車は屋台のお囃子と共に町中を曳き回されます。

They were registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage on December 1, 2016.
それらは2016年12月1日ユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録されました。

It was held after three years. They said there were about 280,000 visitors to see the festival.
3年ぶりの開催でした。約28万人が訪れたそうです。

From 19:30 to 22:00 there were about 7000 fireworks which were so nice.
19時半から22時まで約7000発の花火が上がり素晴らしかったです。

My Trip to Chugoku ＆ Shikoku Vol. 4: Kagawa 2022

I love traveling.

Under the COVID-19 situation, we cannot travel around the world freely as we used to.
コロナ禍では、かつてのように自由に海外旅行が出来ません。

Therefore I have traveled around Japan instead.
だから、その代わり、私は国内を旅しています。

I have been to Chugoku and Shikoku regionseveral times in my life.
私は今までの人生で中国四国地方に何度か行ったことがあります。

Actually for the past 5 years or so I went to Izumo and Hiroshima every year around October or November.
ここ5年程は、10月か11月に出雲と広島に行っています。

October in the lunar calendar is known as Kannazuki for the most part of Japan, but in Izumo it is Kamiarizuki because 8 million gods get together in Izumo to discuss. And there are festivals there for a week or so.
旧暦の10月は日本のほとんどの場所で神無月ですが、出雲では神在月です。なぜなら八百万の神々が出雲に集まっているからです。そして1週間ほどお祭りがあるのです。

This year I was very lucky enough to see the last day of the festivals called Karasadesai.
今年は幸運なことにお祭りの最終日の「神等去出祭」を見ることが出来ました。

This year I decided to go to Matsue first to have dinner with my friend. I bought one way ticket to Matsue via Okayama and stayed there for one night near the station.
今年は、友人と食事をするために松江に行くことにしました。岡山経由で松江に行く片道切符を買って、駅の近くに一泊しました。

Sanin area is famous for crab which is my favorite food. I was very glad to have crab there.
山陰地方はカニで有名で、それは私の大好物なのです。カニが食べれてとても嬉しかったです。

Next day I wore kimono and headed for Izumo by train and bus. I went to Takenoya hotel first to leave my suitcase, and headed for the Inasa beach.
翌日着物を着て電車とバスで出雲に向かいました。まず竹野屋旅館に行って、スーツケースを置いてから稲佐の浜に向かいました。

After that I went to see my benefactor who helped my predicament two years ago and visited the Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo.
その後2年前に私の窮地を救ってくれた恩人に会いに行き、島根県立古代出雲歴史博物館に行きました。

After that I attended the one night two days tour visiting Izumo oyashiro shrine and Miho jinja shrine.
その後一泊二日で出雲大社と美保神社を訪問するツアーに参加しました。

We enjoyed very delicious foods, formal visits, and lectures.
私たちは美味しい料理、正式参拝、講義を楽しみました。

Next day I left Izumo for Hiroshima and stayed there for three nights.
翌日出雲を出て広島に向かい3泊しました。

I enjoyed meeting friends and relatives and visiting many places there.
私は、友人や親戚に会い、いろいろなところに行きました。

After that I left Hiroshima for Omishima through Shimanami Expressway and stayed for a night.
その後広島を出てしまなみ海道を通って大三島に向かい一泊しました。

Next day I left Omishima and went to Shikoku and visited Kotohira gu shrine known as Konpira san in Kagawa where I have long wanted to visit.
翌日大三島を出て四国に行き、前から行きたかったこんぴらさんとして知られる金刀比羅宮に行きました。

Since I missed the connection of the last train, I went to Okayama via Great Seto Bridge and came back home by night bus.
最終電車の接続を逃したので、瀬戸大橋を通って岡山に行き、夜行バスで帰宅しました。

It became a total of 8 days trip visiting 5 prefectures of Chugoku and Shikoku region: Okayama, Shimane, Hiroshima, Ehime, and Kagawa.
中国四国地方の5県（岡山、島根、広島、愛媛、香川）を訪問する8日間の旅になりました。
