It is said that there are more than 88,000 shrines in Japan. Each shrine has some festivals in a year. They usually have monthly festivals called tsukinamisai on the first day and the 15th day of the month. Besides monthly festivals they have annual festivals. Some are famous and others are not.
日本には88,000以上の神社があるといわれています。それぞれの神社には毎年お祭りがあります。普通1日と15日には月次祭と呼ばれるお祭りがあります。それ以外に例大祭があります。有名なものもあればそうでないものもあります。I started the new e-book series “Festivals in Japan” in 2022 when I visited Chichibu Night Festival.

When I visited the Mifune Matsuri festival in Ibaraki early September, I knew about the Sawara Autumn Festival (Sawara Grand Festival: Autumn Festival), which is UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

It is a part of Suwa Shrine Festival, and one of the Three Great Float Festivals of the Kanto Region, during which 14 floats are paraded through the Shinjuku district. Other two are Ishioka Festival in Ibaraki and Kawagoe Festival in Saitama.
諏訪神社の祭礼で、14台の山車が新宿地区を曳き廻す関東三大山車祭の一つです。他の二つは茨城県の石岡まつりと埼玉県の川越まつりです。
