Chichibu Night Festival: 2022

 I have been to Chichibu several times in my life. Especially from October to November 2014 I went there 5 times to visit 34 temples which is the total of 100km. It was the time of special open exhibitions of the year of horse. It only happens once in 12 years. So if you are interested in seeing the hidden statues, you’d better visit in 2026 next time.

私は今までの人生で何度か秩父に行ったことがあります。特に2014年の10月から11月にかけて5回ほど行き、一巡約100キロの秩父三十四ヶ所札所巡りをしました。その時は十二年に一度の午歳総開帳の年でした。もし興味があれば、次は2026年になります。

I knew about the Chichibu Night Festival by news, but I have never visited there, and I have been very interested in visiting for a long time.
秩父夜祭のことはニュースで知っていましたが、一度も行ったことはなく、長い間ずっと行ってみたいと思っていました。

It is held in the night on December 2 and 3. I heard it is very cold. Since it is rather far from my place taking about 4 hours by train, I was wondering how to come home after the festival.
それは12月2日と3日に行われます。とても寒いと聞いていました。私のところからは電車で4時間くらいなので、どうやって帰ろうかと思っていました。

I happened to find the reasonable bus tour and applied but it was so popular that I was on the waiting list and could not join after all.
とっても魅力的なバスツアーを見つけ応募しましたが、人気があったので、キャンセル待ちで結局参加できませんでした。

It was Saturday this year so I decided to visit there by train. The problem was how to come back. Hotels were full and it was impossible to stay there. I was thinking to come back to Ikebukuro or so. To my glad my friend offered me to stay at her house in Tokyo on the day so I could stay there until the last fireworks were over.
今年は土曜日開催だったので、電車で行こうと決めました。問題は帰宅方法です。ホテルはいっぱいで、そこに泊まるのは無理でした。池袋辺りまで戻ろうかと思っていました。嬉しいことに友人が東京の彼女の家に泊まればと誘ってくれたので、最後の花火まで見ることが出来ました。

Chichibu Night Festival is one of the three major Hikiyama festivals in Japan, along with Kyoto Gion Festival in July and the Hida Takayama Festivals in April and October. It has a history of more than 300 years old.
秩父夜祭は、7月の京都祇園祭、4月と10月の飛騨高山祭と共に日本三大曳山祭りの一つです。300年以上の歴史があります。

Two kasaboko floats and four yatai floats are pulled around the town to the accompaniment of the heroic yatai hayashi music.
笠鉾2基と屋台4基の山車は屋台のお囃子と共に町中を曳き回されます。

They were registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage on December 1, 2016.
それらは2016年12月1日ユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録されました。

It was held after three years. They said there were about 280,000 visitors to see the festival.
3年ぶりの開催でした。約28万人が訪れたそうです。

From 19:30 to 22:00 there were about 7000 fireworks which were so nice.
19時半から22時まで約7000発の花火が上がり素晴らしかったです。
